Frequently Asked Questions

What does “Vildnfri” mean?

Vildnfri comes from two Danish words—“Vild” (wild) and “Fri” (free)—and that’s exactly what we stand for, to be Wild and Free. To us, it’s more than a name. It’s a way of life.

Whether you’re stepping into the boots of a Viking, wandering the lanes of a Renaissance faire, or forging your own fantasy legend, we believe in garb and gear that help you live boldly—wild and free.

We also believe that every adventurer deserves gear that’s affordable, well-crafted, and made to last. Whether it’s fabric, leather, or steel, we choose materials and makers who prioritize quality and durability—because gear that holds up over time is what keeps adventures going strong.

Above all, Vildnfri is built on inclusivity. We welcome all people, all stories, and all walks of life. No matter who you are or where your journey begins, you’re invited to be part of our adventure.

At Vildnfri, we’re not just here to outfit you—we’re here to help you live every adventure wild and free.

Are you Vikings?

Not exactly—but we’re inspired by them.

Historically, “Viking” was a profession, not a people—those who went raiding, exploring, or trading by sea. Today, the word carries a spirit that lives on: honor, courage, adventure, and freedom—values we try to embody in everything we do.

Our journey started in 2019 when J’s kids wanted to be How to Train Your Dragon Vikings for Halloween. That family project grew into something bigger: a Viking-themed business rooted in storytelling, craftsmanship, and community.

Now, we’re proud to be Viking vendors at festivals and faires—but we’re not limited to Norse culture. Vildnfri is growing to serve adventurers of all kinds. We believe in being inclusive, creating a space where everyone is welcome to live wild and free.

What do you do at events?

We run a full Viking camp—offering garb, gear, and good company. You’ll find quality wares, storytelling, and hands-on experiences that bring history and fantasy to life.

Why do you do what you do?

We believe everyone deserves high-quality, affordable gear that holds up to real adventure. Vildnfri started as a family project and grew into a mission: to help people step into history, fantasy, and fun—wild and free.

How do you get into events?

We get into events because of people like you. When event patrons tell organizers they want Vildnfri there, it carries real weight.

Following us, sharing our content, and tagging us and the events you love helps spread the word and shows organizers that what we bring matters. Your voice helps us get in the gate—and helps us keep bringing the experiences we offer to more places.

Where are you from?

Our crew comes from all over—from out west, down south in Texas, and across Pennsylvania. J was born and raised in north central Pennsylvania, and today our team is based in both north central and south central PA.

What events do you attend?

We travel primarily along the East Coast—with events in Pennsylvania, and trips as far north as Vermont, as far south as North Carolina, and as far west as Michigan. You’ll find us at Viking festivals, Renaissance faires, and other historical or fantasy-themed gatherings.

Where do you get your products?

We make a number of our products ourselves—like shields, forged knives and seaxes, leather armor, accessories, and custom garb and gear. We’ve also begun designing our own exclusive pieces, and we plan to keep expanding what we design and what we offer.

Much of what we carry is handmade by skilled artisans from around the world—makers whose work we trust, admire, and often collaborate with. Some are close friends and longtime partners. Others are reputable manufacturers we’ve chosen for their commitment to quality, durability, and detail.

Like the Vikings who once traveled and traded across distant lands, we search far and wide for gear worth bringing home. We don’t always know what we’ll find—but when something stands out, we get what we can get.

Our inventory is always evolving as makers shift styles, retire, or run out of stock. But wherever it comes from, we always strive to offer the highest quality at the best prices.

Do you do custom orders?

Yes—we’re artisans and craftspeople, and we love creating pieces that are personal and meaningful. If you have a custom idea in mind, email us at info@vildnfri.com and let’s talk.

Why We Cannot Ship to the UK

Due to recent changes in UK laws and shipping regulations, we are currently unable to ship bladed items—such as swords, knives, axes, and seaxes—to the United Kingdom.

The UK has implemented strict legislation regarding the importation and possession of bladed articles. Items like curved swords with blades over 50 cm and certain types of knives now fall under prohibited or highly restricted categories, unless they meet very specific legal exemptions. These laws are designed to reduce knife-related crime and apply to both individuals and businesses.

In addition to these legal changes, major carriers—including DHL Express UK—have updated their shipping policies. As of 2025, they no longer allow the import of blades longer than 8 inches (20.3 cm). This effectively makes it impossible to ship most of the bladed items we offer to the UK.

We understand this may be disappointing for our friends and supporters across the UK. Please know that this decision isn’t ours—it’s a result of external restrictions beyond our control. If these laws or policies change in the future, we will absolutely revisit the possibility of resuming service to the UK.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
